Throwback Thursday- O.P.P.
Just for the record, was anybody else as clueless as I was as to what the meaning of this song was?
I mean, I had no idea for years. My thinking was “How bad could it have been? After all it had a sugary, bubblegum Jackson 5 sample in it.” In my defense, I was like 8 when this song came out. How was I supposed to know what “splitting and co-hitting that” meant at my age? It wasn’t until years later, when I was in my 20’s, while talking to my husband about this song, that he revealed to me what it was about; or should I say, what that last “P” actually stood for. INNOCENCE LOST!.........“But Treach said that it stood for property? “ At that moment, I think officially became an adult.
Now If you don’t know what I’m talking about after 25 years, I’m definitely not getting into it now….After all, I run a respectable blog! Just think, in 1991 you couldn’t walk 3 neighborhood blocks without seeing folks rocking an O.P.P hat or shirt. I wonder if they were as clueless as I was…. Heck, my mom even bought me one of those damn hats because she liked the song and thought it was catchy. I WAS 8! Walking around with a shirt like that on….Smh…
