Throwback Thursday- Never Stop
Acid Jazz, at its finest. I was a kid back in 1992, and I didn’t even know what Acid Jazz was until I heard of these guys. It’s a sound that really can’t accurately be described, but it’s clearly out of the London music scene, and you definitely know it when you hear it. Acid Jazz has a certain groove to it that combines elements of Jazz, Funk, & Disco, making it the mortal enemy of most hardcore “Jazz-Heads” for its inability to stick to traditional protocol. I always through that The Brand New Heavies were a pretty underrated group for their time. Not to mention there’s just something about N’Dea Davenport’s vocals that are just so perfect and infectious that it really lifts up the track completely off the palette. The song is equal parts easy-breezy, and bonafide funk, all at the same time, making it one of the biggest hits of their career. Even though there have been several lead singers of the group over the years, I always thought that Davenport’s voice was the most identifiable with the group, as it served as lead on most of their biggest hits, and seemed to mesh the best with their sound. Enjoy!
