Discussion of the Week: If You Could Interview Any Singer/Musician (Dead or Alive), Who Would It Be?

I may be a blogger in my spare time, but first and foremost, I’m a songwriter/musician….I’ve been since the age of 9, and I’m always going to be. Blogging, for me, is just a natural extension of my creative expression, and overall musical geekiness. That being said, if I could interview any musician/artist, dead or alive, my answer would have to be two-fold….John Lennon and Quincy Jones. I know, completely opposite ends of the spectrum….Not only are they are 2 of my musical heroes, but they have also each separately changed the landscape of American Music as we know it. Lennon…I mean, come on 1st of all, he was a Beatle; 2nd of all, he was part of the most successful songwriting duo in history, otherwise known as Lennon/Mccartney. Frequenting the technique of “less is more,” they created some of the most poignant and prolific songs of the last 60 years. What songwriter wouldn’t want to have a song like “All You Need Is Love” in their arsenal of hits?  So simplistic, yet so brilliant.

Then there’s “Q”…..What hasn’t he done? In an over 60-year career, he has released countless albums as an artist himself; written and produced for other artists; conducted and arranged for orchestras and ensembles; scored for both TV and Film; discovered and introduced new talent, and all while being one of the coolest cats on the planet….and what’s even more insane is that he’s made it all seem easy. Who else can say they’ve worked with Count Basie, Dusty Springfield, and Big Daddy Kane….”Q” can. His musical reach knows no boundaries, and he has had his hand in some of the most definitive projects of the last 60 years….including a little known album named “Thriller,” by some small-time artist named Michael Jackson…..I wonder, “What ever happened to him?”

There you have it. If you had your pick of artists/musicians dead or alive to interview, who would it be, and why? Sound off in the comments or respond on Twitter using the hashtag #DOTW
