Discussion of the Week: Do You Think That Older Artists Who Are Still Releasing Music Are Relevant in Today's Industry?

At 55, does "The Material Girl" still have anything left to prove?....Elton John sure doesn't think so....and he's old as "pay dirt."

Well truthfully, did you really think that someone like Madonna- who has built a career on being provocative and defining what it is to be sexual in the music industry- was just going to go quietly into the night. I mean, can you really see someone like her just peacefully settling into grandma sweaters and old age? Let's face it Madonna will be (much like Cher) still selling out World Tours until she is clear into her 80's...and probably outdoing all of those that came after her. She is NOT going to let age (or aching bones) define who she is as an artist and performer. I personally feel like at her age, she doesn't need to compete with the "Beyonces" and the "Rihannas" of the world, but if she's still up to the challenge- then more power to her. That being said, she doesn't have anything left to prove to ANYONE. Her status among musical royalty was set years ago; being a legend in her own time. I think that she should focus on just putting out good, quality music; rather than evolving with or setting new trends designed for younger artists.
