Discussion of the Week: Have Your Music Tastes Changed Over Time
No. Not Really....
Well, Maybe Just A Tad....Say what you will but "Ice, Ice Baby" STILL gets the party rockin'.....I don't care how old it is. That cat is set for life after ONE song that he made almost 25 years ago. We should all be so lucky....
For the most part, I like to think that my music tastes are very similar to when I was younger, just broadened that much further. I've always been fiercely eclectic, for as far back as I can remember. I would save up my allowance to go buy tapes that were older than me. What I didn't own, I would record off the radio. My resources were limited, especially compared to today's technology, but I found a way. Now with the advent of smartphones, iTunes and Spotify...I'm always seeking out new music to add to my collection. Thankfully most of the music I liked when I was younger (if not all), I still like and are some of my favorite tunes to this day. I was never a kid who only listened to Hip-Hop & R&B, like most of my friends growing up. There were times I even got clowned for it too. Naw, I was an "MTV Baby"...which means in the afternoon I watched "Yo MTV Raps," and enjoyed "Headbangers Ball" late at night (when I could sneak staying up that late). I remember Hair Bands, New Jack Swing, and Gangsta Rap. I am the generation that is young enough to have been influenced by the music of the 60's and 70's, because our parents listened to it; and young enough to remember the last of the really great singers of the 80's and 90's. So all of that has helped to shape me into the woman I am, and has created the soundtrack for all of my 31 years.
So I ask you: Have Your Music Tastes Changed Over Time? Let me know what your thoughts are by sounding off in the comments...
Until Next Time.....
