Discussion of the Week: What Type of Music Do You Consider To Be Classic?
The inspiration for this question was actually posed from a comment by my almost 10-year old son, Jaesyn. I was playing MotownPhilly by Boyz II Men on my iTunes, and he really liked the song and asked who it was that was singing.....I told him.....and then he asked, "What Year Did That Come Out?" I told him, "1991"....His response to me was "Awww, Mom- that's Old-School." I was flabbergasted! "OLD-SCHOOL?"
Then it dawned on me.....1991 was twenty-three years ago....So even though I remember it like it was yesterday, to someone who wasn't even a gleam in their mother's eye yet......it would be considered "old-school" music. The stuff that we considered to be the "funky, fresh" new-school sound at the time (and yes, I did say, "funky-fresh") is now considered "Classic."
Now I know all of those reading that are 50+ are probably laughing their heads off, saying something along the lines of "Chile, pleease, How do you think we felt when your generation called our Motown, or our Earth, Wind, and Fire, "Old-School?" Yes, yes, yes...I get it now....and I do empathize.....
Seeing as though this a question that means different answers to different generations, "What Type of Music Do You Consider To Be Classic?" Don't be afraid to show your age, now....It's okay, you'll get no judgement from here.....Sound off in the comments
Until Next Time.....
