4-Month Recap

4-Month Recap

Taking the last 4 months off from blogging makes me realize that I've missed out on ALOT in the illustrious world of music news/gossip. In terms of the internet, 4 months is easily like a decade. Seriously. I mean, come on, D’Angelo is back on the scene for goodness sakes…..with his latest album, Black Messiah. I know that’s like sooo yesterday, at this point, but allow me some catch-up time. Anyways, this is his first album since 2000’s, Voodoo. That means that there’s about a whole generation or 2 of kids that have no idea who he is…..which is just really, really sad. Needless say, “Black Messiah” was well worth the wait, and is now being hailed as a modern day soul masterpiece, reminiscent of Prince or Isaac Hayes in his prime. Now if only he can only bring Lauryn Hill back with him, my life will then be complete…

Well, what can be said that hasn't already been said about The Aaliyah Movie. It was damn dreadful in more ways than I could ever contain in one post. You had to be living under a rock if you didn't see all the “#LifetimeBeLike” posts on Social Media. Oh feelings weren't spared whatsoever, and new memes were coming up out of the woodwork at lightning, fast speed. As a result, poor Wendy Williams can’t even get a job directing an “Elementary School Christmas Play” at this point. Oh well, I guess that’s what happens when you screw up the story of such a beloved musical figure, as Ms. Aaliyah.

That being said, Ms Angela Bassett said, “Uh-uh honey, I am NOT subjecting my hard-earned, 25-year career to shame and ridicule by directing some “half-assed” bio-pic.” She stood true to her word, too…Granted the movie should have been named “The Bobby Ain’t That Bad World Tour,” but it was nonetheless, entertaining. It only covered the years of 1989-1994, and focused SOLELY on the relationship of Bobby and Whitney. I would have liked to see other aspects of her life, but I guess that’s too much to fit in a 2hr movie.

In other news, Bobby Shmurda got arrested, and no one is surprised….Azalea Banks (who?) has proven herself to be a world class “Twitter Gangsta,” dissing everyone from Iggy Azalea (WHO?) to Lupe Fiasco. For that matter, since when did the name, “Azalea” become so popular? It sounds like somebody’s old, fat, black “Mee-Maw” from the “Deep South.” I’m just sayin….. Meanwhile, The Kanye Show has not disappointed in managing to piss folks off. He stopped himself short of interrupting Beck at The Grammy’s, and then told Beck- well respected musician who played ALL of the instruments on his album- that he should respect the artistry, and give his Grammy BACK to Beyonce, where it rightfully belongs. I swear if that fool isn't the Commander/Master Chief of the Beyhive, then I don’t know who is….

Anyways, on a brighter note, 2015 is proving to be an interesting year for music so far- with new releases from Madonna, Mark Ronson, Lupe Fiasco, DMX (WHAT!), Jazmine Sullivan, Fall Out Boy, Kendrick Lamar, Ne-Yo, & Kelly Clarkson.

Is there anything I’ve missed? Let me know by sounding off in the comments….
