Throwback Thursday- Toto
Whew…..It’s Throwback Thursday! One of my favorite days of the week! It gives me a chance to showcase my musical-geekiness, and in turn, bring to you some gems that you may have never heard before. Today’s pick is one of my favorite bands, that in my opinion, don’t get nearly enough credit for being the amazing musicians they are. Look through any artist’s catalog throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90’s, and you’ll find the names Steve Porcaro, Jeff Porcaro, David Paich, Greg Phillinganes, along with countless others from the band Toto. They were the “Hitmen-for-Hire” in the music world, and the ones you’d choose to ensure that your song found the right groove. What amazes me is that their music doesn't sound dated, and certainly doesn't sound like anything else that was out around that time. I guess that’s why this song in particular has been sampled and covered by so many artists from MC Lyte to Faith Evans & Eric Benet, since its 1978 release.
