An Idol Comes to AC: Kris Allen
Atlantic City……A town with a long, storied history of having musical acts come down to “The Shore” to perform. Be it at Boardwalk Hall, or The Borgata’s “The Music Box,” Atlantic City has always had its fair-share of top notch entertainment come from far and wide to entertain the masses. In that same spirit, I recently had the pleasure of seeing American Idol Season 8 Winner, Kris Allen during an intimate live acoustic performance at the Hard Rock Café at the Trump Taj Mahal. Now in case you don’t remember, Season 8 was the year that Allen’s soulful, heartfelt vocals beat out fan favorite, Adam Lambert in a stunning upset for the title of “Idol.” The 30-min set was presented by local radio station, SOJO 104.9, and featured several hits both old and new such as “Monster,” “Waves,” and “Live Like You’re Dying.” This performance gave fans a rare opportunity to hear his songs stripped without all the bells and whistles of studio production. We got to hear these tunes with all the intent and feeling as they were meant to have; and from the writer himself.
Allen was gracious enough to take the time out between songs to answer questions from the audience, so that we could find out a bit more about him, his start in music, and what it was like winning “American Idol.”
2016 has also seen the release of Allen’s fifth studio album, “Letting You In,” which includes the track ”Waves” listed below. The album is released on the independent label, “DogBear Records,” and is available for digital download on iTunes and Amazon.”
