Summertime Hits 25!

To this generation, Will Smith is known primarily for being, Jaden and Willow’s dad….(oh yeah, and he’s gonna be Deadshot in some “little known” summer blockbuster called “Suicide Squad”) But waayyy back when (long before those two muppets were even a gleam in Jada’s eyes)…..all of us that are currently apart of the "30-plus club" know that “The Fresh Prince” was already setting forth claim to the summer long before he was ever nicknamed “Mr July.” He initially did so with a jam so smooth, that it would be the definitive classic for every Cookout or BBQ Playlist for years to come.  Sampling the Kool and the Gang hit, “Summer Madness,” 1991’s “Summertime” encompasses everything great about the season and brings back all those feelings of nostalgia from back in the day. He talks about what it was like for him growing up in Philly; and suddenly, no matter what hood you came from, you could relate. I swear, you can automatically smell the BBQ in the air whenever someone puts this record on…..It’s practically instinctive.

I can tell you what I was doing…..Like the rest of the world, watching an episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-air…..cause it premiered right after the show ended! Who here reading this is old enough to remember that?
