As far as summer jams go, the 1st thing that comes to mind is DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince's "Homebase." Now for those of you under 25, this is wayy before Will Smith equaled big-budget action star. No...back then, he was that guy who did all the funny colorful videos, and had a pretty popular sitcom on NBC. Then at the end of one of the episodes, he premiered the video of his new single, "Summertime;" and thus forth, history was made.
Talking about hitting a gold mine....The song was an instant classic, and aptly described everything that we ever loved about our favorite season of the year, over the beat of the Kool and the Gang classic "Summer Madness." This was a song that was clearly, just too cool for its own good. Can you believe that this tune was released, almost 22 years to the day: July 23rd, 1991.
Now that you feel just as ancient as I do, I ask you: What's Your Favorite All-Time Summer Jam?
