Let me take you back to Summer 1991. I was but a mere 8 year old kid, who wanted nothing more than to see the movie, "New Jack City" in theaters.....After all, it was the biggest movie out that summer and quite a few of my friends said that they went to see it (they were more than likely lying themselves). Let me tell, you....I thank God that my mother DID NOT let me see that in theaters, on TV, or any other medium while I was still a minor. All innocence would have been completely lost. If you've seen the movie, then you know exactly what I'm talking about.....
So to make up for it, I went to Sam Goody (Remember that store? "Goody Got It".....hahaha) with my 78-year old grandmother, and had her buy it for me....not realizing what kind of "filth-flarn-filth" was on there. I knew exactly what I was doing. As soon as I got home, I immediately popped the tape in my stereo, pressed play, and heard Ice-T's "New Jack Hustler," Needless to say, my mom burst into my room, heard and saw what I was playing, and that very room was all I saw for the next two weeks.
So with that being said, I ask you: What Music Did You Listen To Against Your Parent's Approval, Growing Up? Come on, we all had to go through it. No matter if you grew up in the 60's and were forbidden to listen to psychedelic rock; and then got older and forbid your kids to listen to Heavy Metal, this conflict between parents and kids alike has been going on since the beginning of time. It's funny how time and age changes your perspective. The same type of "filth-flarn-filth" that I wanted to listen to 20 years ago because it was "cool", I would never in a hundred years, allow my children to listen to.
What are your thoughts?
