Throwback Thursday- Lalah Hathaway

Happy Thursday, #Musicheads! Today, we’re talking about one of my personal favorites. Let me tell you….Few vocalists possess the power, depth, and poise of their instrument better than that of Ms. Lalah Hathaway. Descending from musical royalty, Hathaway has consistently impressed her critics, peers, and fans alike over the last 2 ½ decades with her interpretation of a single lyric. Of course, she gets it honest…..Her rich, alto voice is a female version of that of her father, soul legend, Donny Hathaway. The tones of their voices are so similar that you can literally hear his voice singing over her material, and vice versa. Her 1990 self-titled debut showcased a vocal prowess that was far beyond that of her then-21 years. Even though the musical landscape has changed several times over in the last 26 years, Hathaway has consistently put out albums that have proved that her sound can evolve with the times, and yet still maintain a high level of musical integrity.
